Rosario Dawson Cast as Ahsoka Tano in 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian' Season 2
Finally, it appears that one of the best characters in the Star Wars franchise will be appearing in a live-action production. Slash Film has learned that Rosario Dawson has been cast for Season 2 of The Mandalorian to play a fan-favorite character previously only seen in animated Star Wars shows: Ahsoka Tano.
Some of you may be wondering who the character is is, so let me break it down for you. Ahsoka Tano is Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi Padawan apprentice. She appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. Ahsoka wields two lightsabers and her iconic fighting stance involves her holding the hilts with a reverse grip. The character has also appeared in comics, her own novel, and video games. She's even one of the voices Rey hears at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
Fans are super excited to see Dawson bring the character to life, taking to Twitter to express their excitement.
This is evidently a fan-casting dream come true. A fan even tweeted at Dawson in 2017 asking her to appear in a Star Wars movie as Ahsoka, to which the actress responded, “Ummmm… yes, please?! #AhsokaLives.” This tweet drove fans to campaign for her to play the role. Dawson was then asked about the campaign while appearing on Good Morning America the same year, where she said that the role “would be amazing!”
As a fan of the character, I’m excited to see Ahsoka make her live-action debut in The Mandalorian, which is releasing its second season this fall.
