Shawn Mendes is the Youngest Person on Forbes' 2019 Celebrity 100 List

It’s been a busy several months for Shawn Mendes. Between his ongoing tour for his self-titled album, the Canadian artist has also been popping up in the media after his collaboration “Señorita” with his possible new girlfriend Camila Cabello. This week, it emerged that all that activity has paid off, with Mendes emerging as the youngest person on Forbes' 2019 Celebrity 100 List.
According to Forbes, Mendes, 20, pulled in $38 million before taxes between June 2018 and June 2019, giving him the spot on its list of highest-paid celebrities. This income originated, the magazine said, largely from revenue earned on his current tour, but his endorsement deals with Armani, Calvin Klein, and Smile Direct Club also played a role.
Mendes’ current tour, which follows a number of lucrative appearances at music festivals throughout the United States, promotes his newest album, Shawn Mendes. The album debuted in March 2018 at the number one spot on Billboard’s Top 100, meaning, per Forbes, that Mendes is one of the three youngest artists to release a number one album.
Mendes’ nabbing of the youngest spot serves to dethrone Kylie Jenner, 21, who was the youngest Celebrity 100 member for the past two years--though Jenner, controversially dubbed by Forbes as the world’s youngest “self-made” billionaire, earned nearly double what Mendes did in the same period.
In any case, we’re glad to see that Mendes has made it so far. With the list of the richest celebrities so often dominated by older stars or old-money socialites, it’s good to see someone rise so fast with original talent.
