Shireen Baratheon Actress Kerry Ingram on Why the Final Season of 'Game of Thrones' Was 'So Controversial'
It's no secret that many fans were disappointed by the ending of Game of Thrones. People generally felt that the conclusion to the fantasy series was anticlimactic, poorly-written, and rushed. The backlash was so heavy, a petition started going around to ban the showrunners from producing content for the Star Wars franchise, and even one that called for Season 8 to be redone with "competent writers."
Some actors from the show have defended the series' end, like Margaery Tyrell actress Natalie Dormer, who has said that although she found the final season "fairly anticlimactic," she felt that it would have been "impossible" to satisfy everyone with a show that had so many storylines to wrap up. As reported by Decider, Shireen Baratheon Actress Kerry Ingram recently spoke with The Times Herald and also defended the show's divisive end.
“I think the ending was good, they took into account a lot of the first season. The show started with the Starks and it ended with the Starks," Ingram said. She is pretty optimistic considering her character's tragic final moments! She continued with an assessment on why people were so angry with the conclusion, saying:
"Also I think that the main reason the ending was so controversial is because the show had been running for so long that people had created their own endings. People write their own fan fiction, they write their own endings and it’s wonderful to see but then people get ideas in their head and the ending will never match up to their ideas. But you can’t please everyone and I personally think it was really, really good."
Whatever your opinion on the series' conclusion, Game of Thrones brought a lot of fans together to enjoy it for many years, and that is worth remembering fondly!
