Sony Producer Wants Spider-Man to Stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The fight to keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has begun.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studio's Spider-Man partnership- which allowed the character to join the MCU- is expected to expire in a couple years, and fans are hoping both sides can renew the deal they agreed upon in 2015.

There's a chance that Sony, which owns the theatrical rights to the Spider-Man universe, keeps the Queens-based superhero themselves. However, Amy Pascal, who co-produced Spider-Man: Homecoming, Into the Spider-Verse, and Far From Home, would not like to see Peter Parker leave the MCU.

"I think about crying," Pascal said in an interview with Vanity Fair regarding the Sony-Marvel contract nearing its end. "I can only hope for a future where things work out."

"I will say that working with Marvel has been one of the highlights of my professional career," she continued.

Pascal expressing support in keeping Spider-Man in the MCU is major, as she is one of Sony's top producers and the former Chairperson of the Motion Pictures Group of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Marvel and Sony's most recent collaboration, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, was released this past Friday and has garnered positive reviews.
