'Spider-Man's Tom Holland Reveals He's Not a 'Star Wars' Fan
By Ryan Carroll
Tom Holland has become famous the world over for playing one of the crown jewels of superhero fiction, one of the most recognizable comic book characters of all time: Spider-Man. Naturally, one might expect that Holland would be enveloped in all kinds of sci-fi fandoms himself, but recently, ahead of Spider-Man: Far From Home’s release next week, the 23-year-old actor revealed one property that he’s not a fan of: Star Wars.
Holland revealed the dark secret to Uproxx during an interview on Far From Home. When asked about The Empire Strikes Back, Holland responded that he still hasn’t seen it, adding, “People hate it when I say this, but I’m just really not a Star Wars fan.”
When the interviewer noted that Peter Parker does have Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter in his room, Holland confirmed that he and the character do not share identical interests. He added that Peter also has He-Man action figures, and that “There was a scene that was cut from the film where Peter Parker went and sold all his toys to get the money in order to buy MJ a present” with the exception of “a really niche Star Wars character.”
The order not to sell the particular toy came from Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, who, according to Holland, “need[ed] this toy to be in there.” When Uproxx reached out to Feige for comment, he confirmed that the character was Lobot, a minor character in The Empire Strikes Back.
As for us, we are shocked that Holland’s interests are not completely congruent with those of the fictional character Peter Parker--and for him to have the gall, the audacity, to not know who Lobot is? Shameful. Just kidding!
