Star Wars fans have been speculating for years that Ewan McGregor would someday reprise his role as the younger version of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and McGregor himself finally confirmed in Aug. 2019 that a series about his character would be moving forward at Disney+.

According to Variety, Deborah Chow, who also served as a director of Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, is slated to sit in the director’s chair for the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, which will see McGregor resurrect the iconic Jedi master. The Scottish actor previously played the character in all three Star Wars prequels: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Pre-production on the series was put on hold in Jan. 2020 while early scripts were changed and new writers for the show could be found. And now, the much-anticipated series has landed a new writer to take the helm: Joby Harold.

As reported by Variety this week, Harold will be replacing the show's initial writer, Hossein Amini, who stepped down in January. After Amini exited his role on the show, it was announced that the start of production had been pushed back from Aug. 2020 to Jan. 2021. To date, Harold has served as an executive producer for John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, WGN America drama series Underground, and the Netflix series Spinning Out. He is also serving as the writer Zack Snyder’s film Army of the Dead. Hopefully, production on the series will continue as planned.
