'Star Wars: The Mandalorian' Director Deborah Chow on How She's Approaching Obi-Wan Kenobi Series
The third episode of Star Wars: The Mandalorian was released last week, and with it came a wave of praise for the director, Deborah Chow, with many fans even saying that it is the best episode yet. Now, the soon to be Obi-Wan Kenobi series director is reflecting on what she learned on set of The Mandalorian, and how she will take it with her into future projects.
IGN reports that The High Cost of Living director recently spoke with The New York Times and revealed she has been in a kind of Star Wars training program the last year or so. She explained:
"One of the biggest benefits is that I just spent the last year in the Star Wars universe and I had great mentors, coming in under Jon [Favreau] and Dave [Filoni]. Absorbing that, I feel, was the best training I could have had to take on the next one. So much of it [is] just feeling it and understanding it, on an instinctual level, to know what's right and what's wrong with it. And there's so much knowledge – every prop, every costume is important. Every detail really matters."
The Canadian filmmaker plans on bringing this eye for detail into the Ewan McGregor-fronted series, slated to begin filming next year. However, there is unfortunately one little thing she has to leave behind, for Obi-Wan’s sake. Chow joked when asked about the character of Baby Yoda doing a crossover appearance, "I can't talk about Obi-Wan, but I don't think the baby will be coming with us on that one. I think the baby steals the show."
We are excited to see what Chow does with the highly-anticipated Obi-Wan series on Disney+.
