'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Drops Early on Home Video for Fans Self-Quarantining Amid Coronavirus Crisis
With much of the nation busy at home making quarantine Spotify playlists, Disney has done everyone a favor and made Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker available a few days early. The latest film in the series from a galaxy far, far away hit theaters in Dec. 2019, debuting to mixed reactions from critics and longtime fans. Whether you liked it or not, it made over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office and concluded a story that began long, long ago.
The film was due for release on Tuesday, March 17. Instead, Deadline reports that the conclusion to the Skywalker Saga became available late Friday, March 13, in most digital stores including Vudu, Apple TV and iTunes, Google Play, FandangoNow and Amazon. The title is available in HD and SD for $19.99 and in 4K Ultra HD for $24.99.
Disney also had another surprise for those of us who have been working our way through our home entertainment repertoire: Frozen 2 got an early release date as well! The House of Mouse said on Friday that it would drop the sequel three months ahead of schedule in the U.S. and internationally on Disney+. It is now available to stream on the platform.
New Disney CEO Bob Chapek explained in a press release that the company was pleased to share Frozen 2 sooner, saying, “the themes of perseverance and the importance of family are messages that are incredibly relevant during this time, and we are pleased to be able to share this heartwarming story early with our Disney+ subscribers to enjoy at home on any device.”
