'Stranger Things' Star Caleb McLaughlin Teases Possibility There Won't Be a Season 4

Season 3 of Netflix’s Stranger Things has been a smash hit, rallying fans behind the series and boosting enthusiasm for its future--especially following its tear-jerking final episode. This week, however, a cloud of uncertainty emerged, with star Caleb McLaughlin teasing the possibility that there won’t be a Season 4 after all.
McLaughlin, who plays Lucas in the series, spoke this week to Entertainment Weekly (via Complex) about the series’ future, saying that “It’s all up to the Duffers and the writers if they want to keep going,” adding, "Maybe they want to stop now. Maybe they don’t want to give anyone another season. Maybe they just want to leave you guys hanging like that.”
“I talk to people about this all the time, we can literally leave you guys hanging on the Upside Down,” McLaughlin joked.
As of yet, the series has not received a definitive renewal for a fourth season--though such an announcement seems likely, as, according to Complex, Netflix has shared that Season 3 was the most-streamed program on the platform of all time. Previously, producer Shawn Levy and star David Harbour have spoken about a fourth season in confident terms, with both even saying they could imagine the show concluding in five seasons.
McLaughlin himself also seems confident about the probability of Season 4, despite his tease--and he has thoughts on the direction his character should take. "I feel like Lucas is the man with the plan," he told EW. "I want to see a lot of those moments, his battle moments, action moments, more of his relationship with Max."
In any case, we’re glad that McLaughlin’s tease is just a tease. We’re not sure we could handle leaving Hawkins, Indiana, just yet, especially after that final Season 3 episode.
