Taika Waititi Confirms This Marvel Character Will Not Appear in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'
Academy Award winning director Taika Waititi threw a party at his house last night—a Thor: Ragnarok livestream party, that is. To fans' delight, he took to Instagram yesterday to provide a live commentary of the upcoming film, with guest commentators including Tessa Thompson and Mark Ruffalo.
During the livestream, Waititi played Thor: Ragnarok on a laptop while revealing information and answering questions about the film. More importantly, he dropped some new details about the next Thor installment, Thor: Love and Thunder, which is due for release on Feb. 18, 2022. The film will see Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as the titular God of Thunder, along with returning cast members Natalie Portman, who will be coming back as astrophysicist Jane Foster, and Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, the newly appointed leader of Asgard.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waititi began with a sneak peek at concept art for Miek, Thor's larva-like alien friend who he met on the garbage planet Sakaar. Evidently, Miek will receive a new suit of body armor in the film. Similarly, the director revealed that Miek’s companion, Korg, who Waititi portrays, will have a much larger role in the sequel. He also shared concept art of New Asgard, but would not comment on who Christian Bale is portraying in the film.
While fans already know that the Guardians of the Galaxy are slated to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi confirmed during the livestream that one character comic book fans won't see is the Silver Surfer, of Fantastic Four fame. But even if the metallic wave-shredder won't be there, the upcoming film will include space sharks, known in Marvel Comics as Starsharks.
The Instagram Live session wasn't all about the upcoming movie, though. Check out this hilarious clip below, where you can see Waititi and Ruffalo try to match their cameras up to make funny faces for their viewers.
Every new tidbit about Thor: Love and Thunder seems better than the last. 2022 can't come soon enough!
