'Teen Mom' Fans Have Strong Opinions for Farrah Abraham After She Refers to Herself as a 'Widow'
Fans of the MTV series Teen Mom will recall that when Farrah Abraham first appeared on 16 and Pregnant back in 2008, the father of her baby, Derek Underwood, sadly died in a car accident before their daughter Sophia was born. Abraham has been open about visiting Underwood's grave with Sophia over the years to commemorate his life, but she recently drew ire from fans after she called herself a "widow" in a recent Instagram post.
As we all know, a "widow" is a wife who has lost her husband, and since Abraham and Underwood were never married, she technically doesn't qualify as one. As reported by PopCulture.com, Mother's Day came a few days ahead of what would have been Underwood's 30th birthday. Farrah shared a video of herself and Sophia reading in their backyard on Instagram to pay tribute to him, which you can check out below.
"I wish no other woman to be a widow, a woman who has to hold it all together even when the world is against her," Farrah said in the caption, where she referred to herself as a "widow" multiple times. "I wish being a widowed mom, and only parent could be easier," she continued, before wishing a "Happy Mother’s Day to all the strong widowed and single moms."
As Abraham and Underwood broke up before his death and were never married, Farrah's followers were quick to point out that she was claiming to be something she's not. "Girl please. You hated Derek. You guys weren't even together. Who are you trying to kid? Stop using his death for attention. Gets old!," one person replied to the post. "Not to be rude... but you aren't a widow... you just lost the father to your child," someone else pointed out. "You have to be married to be a widow. You are not a widow," another added.
While Farrah is a single mother, it seems unfair to women who are actually widowed to attach an incorrect label to her relationship with Underwood. But at the end of the day, we are hoping that Farrah and Sophia are finding peace together over Underwood's untimely death.
