'Teen Mom OG' Season 8 Concludes With Reportedly Disappointing Ratings
Season 8 of Teen Mom OG concluded last week and despite all of the drama, the ratings for the finale are unfortunately lackluster. This season featured moms Amber Portwood, Maci Bookout, Mackenzie McKee, Cheyenne Floyd, and Catelynn Lowell, and the ratings for the final episode were pretty uninspiring, with only 692,000 viewers tuning in. As reported by The Ashley, the June 2 episode’s ratings were the second-worst of the season, beat out only by the episode that aired on May 26, which brought in a mere 644,000 viewers. As previously reported by The Ashley, the Season 8B premiere episode garnered 859,000 viewers, but those numbers fell considerably as the season went on.
Only three episodes from Season 8B had over 800,000 viewers, and those numbers had dropped into the 600,000s by late May. Those numbers may seem relatively large, but compared to the Season 8A premiere of Teen Mom OG, which brought in 990,000 viewers, it reveals that the latter half of Season 8 had a rough go of it. In comparison to years' past, these ratings are pretty abysmal. For example, the pilot episode of Teen Mom— which aired in Dec. 2009— had a whopping 2.1 million viewers watching!
This season featured Mackenzie dealing with the aftermath of her mother's death, the fallout from Amber's domestic battery arrest, Cheyenne coming to terms with her daughter's illness, Catelynn's business ventures and family drama, and Maci finding balance as a working mother while launching a company. Who knows why ratings were so low this season, but hopefully it won't affect the show's future.
