'The Eternals' Actor Haaz Sleiman Confirms Film Will Feature Marvel's First LGBTQ Kiss
Marvel Studios is fortunately continuing to step up its game in terms of representation. For the first time ever, the MCU will feature an openly gay couple with a child. Talk about exciting!
In the upcoming film The Eternals, Phastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry, will be married to Haaz Sleiman's character. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Sleiman spoke with NewNowNext and revealed the film will not only feature Marvel's first ever LGBTQ relationship on screen, but will also even capture a kiss from the couple.
"It’s a beautiful, very moving kiss," Sleiman dished. "Everyone cried on set. For me, it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be."
Sleiman went on to speak about his co-star, saying:
"Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point. We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious; we forget to connect on that human part."
Beautifully said! How exciting to see this inclusion. The Eternals, directed by Chloé Zhao, is due to hit theaters on Nov. 6, 2020.
