The Final Season of 'Game of Thrones' Confirmed to Be Similar to Six Movies

Any Game of Thrones fan knows the final season of the show will be one of the most intense experiences ever, but fans weren’t exactly expecting it to be like watching six movies.

But Richard Plepler, HBO’s CEO, said that’s exactly how the eighth season will feel, according to Variety. Plepler dished to the outlet at a post-Golden Globes party all about possibly the most-anticipated season of any show, ever.

"It’s a spectacle. The guys have done six movies," Plepler said. "The reaction I had while watching them was, ‘I’m watching a movie.’" We knew the upcoming season would feature longer episodes than normal, but this confirmation that they're actually movie-like is insane to hear.

Plepler also added that he was impressed with the work showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have done with the six-feature-length episodes.

"They knew the bar was high. They’ve exceeded the bar," the executive said.
“I’ve watched them twice without any CGI and I’m in awe." We’re going to guess many Thrones fans will also be watching the final season way more than twice.

"Everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat of storytelling and of magical, magical production," Plepler concluded.

Let’s just skip through the dreaded winter and go straight to episode one, which is set to premiere on HBO in April 2019.
