The 'Office' Role Meredith Actress Kate Flannery Originally Auditioned for
By Rachel Reed
On The Office, there's no one quite like Meredith. Even the actress behind the iconic character, Kate Flannery, admitted of the part, "Meredith is the best part I ever could have had. Who doesn't want to talk to the office drunk?" But once upon a time, the star saw herself as someone else in Dunder Mifflin, reports Victoria Advocate.
Back in 2018, Flannery and Stanley actor Leslie David Baker appeared as celebrity guests at Victoria Comic Con. While chatting about the beloved series, the roles they played—and almost played—were big points of discussion.
It's hard to imagine anyone else pulling off the part of Meredith quite as whole heartedly as Flannery did, however, she was originally going out for the role of Jan Levinson, which eventually went to the hilarious Melora Hardin. But after she was denied the part, the casting director still thought she should have a role, and Flannery was offered a character who didn't even have a name yet. "I didn't know what I was getting myself into," she explained of being cast. "I saw the British show and was a big fan. I was a bit skeptical that we could make it that good."
The Dunder Mifflin alum also shared some insight for aspiring actors during the appearance, saying, "You can compromise yourself as a waiter but not as an artist. Just remember your dreams are worth following. You never know; why not you?" That's one piece of advice worth writing down, and we're glad Flannery agreed to take on the amazing role of Meredith.
