The Most Popular TV Series on Netflix in 2019 Revealed
With 2020 only hours away, we're pausing to look back on how we spent our time in 2019. Obviously, Netflix was a big part of the daily routine and so it's only natural that we're all super curious as to what the most-watched series of the streaming empire were for everyone.
Netflix just released lists of its most-watched shows, divided by genres: nonfiction, scripted series, and comedy. According to Variety, the service decided to release lists of its most popular shows in an effort to make it onto "year-end lists and ranking stories," especially with this time of the year being peak season for viewership.
Netflix never releases "actual viewership" statistics, according to Variety, as part of its policy. It reportedly calculates popularity by counting the total number of households to watch a title within 28 days of its release. If a title was recently made available and it's been less than 28 days, the service uses a projection algorithm to compute the show's popularity.
