Tom Hardy Continues to Tease a Spider-Man Appearance in 'Venom' Sequel With Since-Deleted Post
Last month, actor Tom Hardy revealed the release date for the sequel to the 2018 film Venom, in which Hardy starred as anti-hero Eddie Brock. The follow-up, titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage, currently has a release date of June 25, 2021 after being delayed due to coronavirus concerns.
There are plenty of hints from the first film as to what might unfold next. Venom follows journalist Brock as he attempts to expose unethical human experiments, but he gets more than he bargains for when he bonds to a transformative alien being called Venom. While they are initially enemies, Venom and Brock eventually work together to stop more aliens from coming to Earth.
A post-credits scene reveals that after the whole ordeal, Brock returns to journalism, where he interviews incarcerated serial killer Cletus Kasady, who promises "carnage" when he escapes. This is a big clue as to what will happen in the sequel, with the title suggesting that Kasady, a.k.a. the comic book character Carnage, will play a large role in the plot. Another clue lies in since-deleted posts from Hardy's Instagram page. The most recent, which he has since deleted, shows a drawing of Venom biting off what looks to be Spider-Man's head. In the comic books, Venom is one of Spider-Man's archenemies and actually uses the hero as a host.
Fans have been dying to see Spider-Man incorporated in the Venom film series, and it looks like Hardy is just fueling all the excitement and speculation.
Since the post has been deleted, it's really just up for theorization if it was a hint that Spider-Man will appear in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, or if it's just Hardy's way of promoting the film. Fans will have to wait until next year to see if Venom and Spider-Man are ready to go head to head or not.
