Tom Holland Possibly Being Considered for New Disney Live-Action Remake
By Ryan Carroll
Tom Holland has had no shortage of media attention recently, between the premiere of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the emergence of his new relationship, and the burgeoning excitement for his upcoming film Onward. This week, another piece of Holland news emerged, with the report that he's being considered for a live-action remake of Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
MovieWeb (via Seventeen) reports that Holland is in the running to play Milo, the film’s central character, played in the original animated film by Michael J. Fox. The rumor remains vague, however, because, outside of a report last week by We Got This Covered, there has been no word about or announcement of the film.
Released in 2001, Atlantis: The Lost Empire was an animated adventure film inspired by the literature of Jules Verne and the comic book art of Mike Mignola. Despite faring poorly at the box office, it received positive critical reception and has since achieved cult classic status.
The film would mark the latest in a series of Disney live-action remakes or sequels, following Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Christopher Robin, Mary Poppins Returns, and this year’s Aladdin and The Lion King. Atlantis, however, is markedly different from any of these properties, as it never achieved commercial success and was not produced in the same musical format as typical Disney films.
While we’re not completely sold on the veracity of this rumor, we’ll keep an eye on it--an Atlantis remake with Tom Holland would certainly be something to see.
