VIDEO: Billie Lourd Talks Late Mom Carrie Fisher in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Behind-the-Scenes Clip
In an amazing behind-the-scenes clip about the making of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans get to watch the intricate work that went into shaping the character of Leia Organa, played by the late Carrie Fisher, after her death.
In a feat of CGI and access to archives, the crew behind the latest film in the Skywalker Saga was actually able to make it seem like Fisher was still very much with the rest of the actors. But there was one more vital detail that fans didn't know about until after the release of the film, which was that Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, was the physical stand-in to allow visual effects to impose Fisher's face over hers.
In a new documentary detailing the hard work put into The Rise of Skywalker, Lourd discusses the process from set, playfully joking, "It’s kind of a gift from her or her forcing us to make a decision to make her the star of the movie. Probably both." See a clip below from Good Morning America.
Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in the most recent trilogy, also talks about Fisher in the snippet above, recalling, "The reality of having to do a scene with someone who isn’t actually there was very difficult. I sort of had to walk off and have a moment." It's obvious the entire cast and crew was changed after the actress' untimely death, and she will be remembered fondly by all who knew who.
The documentary will be available with the film's digital release on March 17.
