VIDEO: Cillian Murphy Recalls Auditioning for Batman in Christopher Nolan's Trilogy
You may have heard the recent rumors that Cillian Murphy is being considered for a role in the upcoming Doctor Strange 2, but that's not the only surprising news about his acting career to surface this week. Apparently, he was previously considered for a role that might surprise DC fans. In a new interview with Late Night With Seth Meyers, Murphy revealed he initially auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan's film series.
The Golden Globe nominee recalled:
"Yes, [I auditioned] amongst many other actors. I think it was obvious Christian Bale was going to be Batman. At that time, he was such a magnificent Batman and Bruce Wayne. But I did get to, I think it was the Val Kilmer suit. I got to try it on."
Murphy may not have wound up playing Batman in the film series, but he did have a hand in the franchise. Fans will remember that the Peaky Blinders star appeared as Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow in all three installments of Nolan's trilogy.
Despite not landing the leading role, it sounds like Murphy had a grand time slipping into the Batman suit for a short while. "It's a weird thing. You put it on, you put the cowl on, and your voice drops. It drops a couple of octaves," he hilariously recalled.
Who knows, with so many different productions of Batman's story being filmed throughout the years, Murphy might have his chance yet, perhaps as an older Bruce? A girl can dream!
