VIDEO: Emilia Clarke Weighs in on Why First 'Game of Thrones' Prequel Was Cancelled
The Mother of Dragons is weighing in.
News broke yesterday that the highly-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel starring Naomi Watts had been scrapped. Allegedly, HBO opted out of committing to a full series, despite filming reportedly beginning already. While the premium cable network is known for being picky, the reason for cutting the show is still vague. Luckily, Emilia Clarke, who is best known for playing Daenerys Targaryen on the Emmy-winning series, tried to shed some light on the issue in the video below.
The 33-year-old actor stopped to talk to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet for the premiere of her new film, Last Christmas. In the interview, Clarke is asked about the dissolved prequel. The ever-so-sweet Solo: A Star Wars Story star gave her two cents on what she thought went wrong, saying:
“I just heard that today. I’m not really too sure. I mean, I suppose this is reflective of the state of our…you know, it’s difficult to get people to go see stuff, and it’s difficult to get stuff made. Maybe it will be reincarnated at some point, but if it wasn’t meant to happen now, then I’m sure it’s because they knew it wasn’t going to be as perfect as it should have been.”
Hopefully she is right. But if not, at least we will get to see the other, newly confirmed prequel series all about the Targaryens to tie us over.
