VIDEO: Joaquin Phoenix Explains How Filming 'Joker' Was 'Fun' Despite Its Dark Content
The highly-anticipated Todd Phillips film, Joker, finally comes out this week, and those involved in the process of creating the character of Arthur Fleck are reminiscing about the experience.
The star of the movie, Joaquin Phoenix, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week to promote the film, and was asked about his experience playing the infamous character.
In the video below, Kimmel asks Phoenix if it was emotionally exhausting to play such a dark role. Joaquin states that actually, he had fun making the movie, and that "it was a light set." He explained, "You know Todd, he’s really funny, and yeah, I feel almost guilty but we had a really good time."
As most know, the sinister role of Joker has been difficult for many other actors to tackle, the most famous being Heath Ledger, who tragically died from an accidental mixture of prescription drugs soon after filming The Dark Knight. Fans speculated at the time that his commitment to playing the mad villain might have fueled his drug use.
Despite the role’s eerie history, it seems that Phillips and Phoenix were still able to find joy in creating the film, though I doubt much of that joy will be present in the twisted plot. Be sure to check out Joker, in theaters Oct. 4.
