VIDEO: Kim Kardashian Talks Fighting for Justice for Rodney Reed on 'Today Show'
Kim Kardashian is lending a hand to help another prisoner. People reports that the 39-year-old reality star and criminal justice activist recently stopped by the Today Show to discuss her involvement with the case of Rodney Reed. Reed had been on death row in Texas for more than two decades for the 1996 murder of Stacey Stites, a crime he maintains he did not commit. His execution was scheduled for Nov. 20, 2019.
In the video above, Kardashian explains that she was with Reed when he heard that the highest court in Texas halted his execution and sent his case back to basic court to be evaluated once again. She describes the moment Reed found out he would live, saying, “It was just this overwhelming sigh of relief and hope that really filled the room…it was emotional, it was extremely emotional and he said, ‘Praise Jesus.’ He just said it so…I could just feel his soul when he said that.”
Kardashian has been involved with prison reform and criminal justice the last year or so, and has found it so important that she has decided to become a lawyer. The mom-of-four revealed that one of the main reasons she persists in the work is because of her children. She explained:
“When you become a mom, you become so protective. You want to hopefully make their world the most perfect place ever, and ours obviously isn’t. And I definitely see how especially black men are treated in this country, still differently, and I’m raising two black men. So I want to make sure that my world and their world is as safe and as fair as possible.”
It seems that Kardashian is doing her part to make the world a fairer place.
