VIDEO: Watch 'The Office' Star Brian Baumgartner Make Kevin's Famous Dish in Honor of National Chili Day
Out of the countless iconic moments in The Office history, I think I speak for everyone when I say one of the best cold opens, hands down, is when Kevin Malone brings in his famous chili. The poor guy is just so excited to be able to bring in his favorite dish (still in the big pot) for his coworkers, explaining that his trick is to "undercook the onions." But just as his voiceover states, "I'm serious about this stuff," we see him tragically spill the chili all over the office, looking at the camera extremely upset over what just happened.
As Kevin frantically tries to scoop up the chili with whatever office supplies are around, his voiceover continues, sharing how this is a Malone family recipe, passed down from generations. I almost feel bad for laughing. Almost. If you need a refresher of the amazing scene, watch here.
Now, in honor of National Chili Day yesterday, it only makes sense that Brian Baumgartner, the actor who brought Kevin to life, would be recruited to help celebrate. In the video below, Bush's Beans teams up with the star to have him make the famous meal. This is honestly a dream collab for The Office die-hard fans.
Leaning into his Kevin persona, Baumgartner uses Bush's Beans, green peppers, sour cream, and cheese for his chili, all while almost turning the whole thing into a disaster with every move. "Nailed it," he says at the end. "It's beautiful." But of course, the video is not complete without something going wrong: The actor accidentally smashes the pot of chili onto the floor while saying goodbye.
Classic.
