VIDEO: Watch 'Avengers' Star Chris Hemsworth Sing Johnny Cash's Version of 'Hurt' as 'Fat Thor'

Though Avengers: Endgame is one of the most serious and emotional films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the cast and crew spent considerable time lightening the mood on set. This week, a new revelation emerged about one particular Endgame star: Chris Hemsworth, who channeled the “Fat Thor” version of his character by singing “Hurt,” a song written by Nine Inch Nails and made popular by Johnny Cash via his 2002 cover.

In an interview on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Hemsworth shared he took a number of photos and videos in between takes on the tentpole film. "I have a little something," he said, according to ComicBook.com. "And this is a world first, no one has seen this before. I didn't even know if I was ever gonna show it because it was like, in the trailer in between a few takes."

Hemsworth proceeded to share a video of himself as Thor, playing guitar in his trailer and singing the deeply emotional song. "What else but Johnny Cash, 'Hurt'?" he joked. "It's the saddest song in the world."

The song is particularly fitting for the heavyweight Thor persona seen in Endgame, as the character is embroiled with deep emotional trouble and unhealthy weight gain following his perceived failure to save the world in Infinity War.

Phones were technically not allowed to be out on the set of the film in order to prevent leaks, but cast members frequently pulled them out in order to record moments when the entire cast was present--or humorous moments, such as Hemsworth’s crooning.

While that behavior could’ve resulted in some leaks, we’re ultimately glad that they were able to do it--otherwise, we wouldn’t get to see the plus-sized Hemsworth singing his emotional dirge. Somehow, we think it’s a fair trade-off.
