VIDEO: Watch 'Star Wars' Actors Daisy Ridley and John Boyega React to That Dark Rey Reveal

Over the weekend, Disney revealed huge surprises for upcoming projects at their D23 Expo in Anaheim, but arguably none were as shocking as what was shown in the new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teaser footage.

In the last scene of the clip, Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) is shown in a dark hooded cape carrying red lightsaber, hinting that she might end up joining Kylo Ren on the Dark Side of the Force.

Fans have been going bananas over the footage, theorizing and analyzing if Rey’s descent into the darkness could be plausible for the storyline.

And we weren’t the only ones that were surprised. ComicBook.com reports that after the conference, Ridley and her co-star, John Boyega (Finn), stopped to speak to Fandango, where they were asked about their reactions to the big twist.

Making a stunned face and gasping, Ridley freezes for a beat in the clip above then says, “Literally that.” Boyega also couldn’t believe his eyes. He hilariously admits, “Rey wearing some red jacket having a red glow stick…That’s crazy, that’s the first time I’ve seen her like that.”

Ridley later picks fun at Boyega’s reaction, adding, “John just went, ‘Oh my god, you got a red lightsaber!’ I was like, ‘You read the script, dude.'”

Even so, Ridley has to understand that actually seeing Rey on the Dark Side is pretty appalling. She is, after all, possibly our last hope.
