While fans have had zero news about the highly-anticipated final chapter of the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: Episode IX, they can look to Disney+'s The Mandalorian for their fix of Star Wars updates. The latest to come is that filmmaker Werner Herzog will be playing the villain in the streaming service's upcoming series.

Herzog is known mainly for his documentaries, but is swapping out his director's chair for an actor's for the series in an undisclosed role. The 76-year-old filmmaker has now revealed, however, that he's playing a minor character who is also an antagonist.

"Now this is not a secret anymore, [I have] a small part, real small part, in The Mandalorian, the Star Wars sequel or whatever you call it," Herzog told IndieWire. "I like to do it because I know I’m good on screen, but only if I have to play a real villain."

This won't be the first time Herzog has played a villain, as he played the bad guy in the first Jack Reacher film alongside Tom Cruise.

The Mandalorian was created by Jon Favreau and stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, and Nick Nolte, along with Herzog. The series is currently said to be in post-production, and is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2019.
