Why the Night King Could Actually Be After Jaime Lannister in 'Game of Thrones'

Thanks to Vladimir Furdik, the actor behind the Night King in Game of Thrones, we know his character is targeting one specific person he wants to kill above all others. Fans have since been coming up with theories that maybe it's Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen or Bran Stark, but the latest idea says it could be Jaime Lannister.

A fan on Reddit argues that the Night King couldn't possibly be targeting Bran because he could've killed him by now--plus, that would be way too obvious of a move. Even though the Night King would want to eliminate Bran simply for his powers, he's got his eye on another person first.

The clues come in the way Bran says he's waiting for an "old friend" in the Season 8 premiere. Jaime obviously isn't an old friend, but if he's Azor Ahai, the one prophesied to end the Long Night, Bran would've been able to see this--and would likely feel the need to help him.

The fan truly believes Jaime is Azor Ahai, highlighting the possible evidence with:

"The scene of Bran with Jojen and Meera Reed in a cave in Season 4 (or was it 5?) where Jojen's hand lights up when asked how it will end has been pointed to by many Redditors as a sign that the battle with the Night King will end when Jaime's golden hand lights up on flame."

If you're wondering then, why the Night King wouldn't ride on Viserion to the South to kill Jaime, the fan has an answer for that. They believe the undead leader doesn't know he's after Jaime specifically, but he knows he wants Azor Ahai dead. "The Night King knows what the person he wants to kill is but doesn't really know who just yet, although he's heading to Winterfell in search of Azor Ahai, probably because that's where he last fought him thousands of years ago," the Redditor suggests.

As Bran is the Three-Eyed-Raven now, it's highly unlikely he wants to meet with Jaime to get revenge. Isaac Hempstead Wright, the actor behind Bran, even confirmed this, telling The Hollywood Reporter that his character is "so far beyond any petty squabbling or wanting to get revenge or a comeuppance on someone." If he wants to talk to Jaime, it must be for something significant. And if the Lannister is Azor Ahai, Bran would know.

All of this is still just speculation, of course. But here's to hoping we find out who the Night King is after sooner than later.
