Why This Character Didn't Get a Funeral in 'Avengers: Endgame' [SPOILERS]

This story includes spoilers for 'Avengers: Endgame.'

Since Avengers: Endgame premiered on April 26, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have had a ton to explain. From Thanos' early demise, to the assembly of the female Avengers, the writers have been good sports about answering all the questions we have about their decisions concerning the blockbuster movie.

Now they have just revealed the answer to a question fans have been speculating about why a certain character didn't get the funeral many believed they deserved. Fans knew that some of their favorite characters were going to die, but when Black Widow sacrificed herself to get one of the Infinity Stones, we were all shook. And heartbroken.

Later on when Tony Stark tragically died, he, unsurprisingly, got a very emotional funeral that brought all the surviving superheroes together. But fans have been wondering what happened to Natasha's funeral.

Markus and McFeely have a perfectly simple answer: it just wouldn't have suited Black Widow's character. In an interview with The New York Times, Markus stated:

“Tony gets a funeral. Natasha doesn’t. That’s partly because Tony’s this massive public figure and she’s been a cipher the whole time. It wasn’t necessarily honest to the character to give her a funeral.”

As highlighted by We Got This Covered, the directing duo the Russo brothers previously hinted that Natasha likely got a funeral offscreen. "Do you remember the superheroes in the movie gathered to talk about her? She probably also has a funeral, but it is not presented in the movie," they suggested.

Natasha Romanoff might be dead, but fans will still be able to see her in the upcoming Black Widow standalone movie.
