Will Smith 'banned for 10 years' from Oscars award show
Ever since Will Smith's violent outburst against comedian Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars ceremony, the Academy has been deliberating as to what to do with the disgraced actor and what repercussions they should take.
The actor hit Chris Rock for joking about his wife's shaved head, a result of the hair-loss condition alopecia.
Less than an hour later, he was awarded the best actor award for his role in King Richard, where he played the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.
The former Men In Black star has already resigned from the Academy, but now the committee has come to a decision when it comes to what punishment to deliver the actor.
On Thursday, the Academy revealed that it had decided to ban Will Smith from attending any future Oscars ceremonies and celebrations for the next "10 years" over the Chris Rock slap. But some still feel like this is a "light" sentence for the actor.
"Assaulting someone on LIVE television is a crime and should be appropriately punished! 10 years away from the Oscars is nothing!!! #JustinceForChrisRock," one Twitter user wrote.
