Young Anakin Skywalker Actor Jake Lloyd's Mom Gives Update on His Mental Health
Star Wars fans will remember Jake Lloyd, who played young Anakin Skywalker in the 1999 installment The Phantom Menace, was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. The actor was 10 years old at the time he was cast, and is now 30. Jake's mother, Lisa Lloyd, recently shared an update via Geek News Now about his current mental health.
According to CinemaBlend, Lloyd explained, "Jake has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, but unfortunately he also has a symptom called anosognosia which causes a lack of insight into his illness."
She also spoke about the death of Jake's younger sister, Madison, who tragically passed in her sleep at the age of 26. This was understandably devastating for Jake and the rest of the family.
When The Phantom Menace hit theaters, it wasn't well received by fans and many people harassed the actors, Jake included, despite his young age. CinemaBlend points out that Mark Hamill noted he's "still mad at Star Wars fans and critics for how they treated" a 10-year-old actor.
Jake, who no longer works as an actor, was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when he was 19 years old and, according to his mother, he's a happy, wonderful person when on his medication.
