'Young Avengers' Movie: Rumors, Hints, and Speculated Castings
By Ryan Carroll
The dust has settled following Avengers: Endgame, with the shape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe having been fundamentally changed--many of the original Avengers have departed, there are new team alignments, and a number of new characters have taken center stage, leaving fans to wonder just what will happen next. There are a number of rumors that suggest that the next step is a Young Avengers project, and we're here with everything you need to know.
CBR reported in January about a rumor that a future “New Avengers” project would include characters from Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung’s 2005 comic series Young Avengers. More recently, We Got This Covered shared a rumor that a Young Avengers TV show is in the works, and will coordinate with Marvel's Disney+ series WandaVision. The roster will supposedly include Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie Lang; Hawkeye (Kate Bishop, taking up the mantle from Clint Barton); the Kree-Skrull hybrid Hulkling; Wiccan and Speed, the sons of the Vision and the Scarlet Witch; Patriot, the grandson of a test subject in the program that eventually created Captain America; and Iron Lad, a young version of Fantastic Four villain Kang the Conqueror.
No casting announcements have been made for any of these characters, though Emma Fuhrmann portrayed a young adult version of Cassie Lang in Avengers: Endgame. We Got This Covered initially speculated that Kate Bishop would be played by Katherine Langford, though a recent interview with Endgame directors, the Russo Brothers, revealed that Langford was to play an adult version of Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan, before being cut. Previously, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler had expressed interest in including Patriot in the film.
The original Young Avengers was created by Allan Heinberg (the future screenwriter of DC’s Wonder Woman) and Jim Cheung in 2005, and takes place shortly after the dramatic disbanding of the Avengers following a massive battle, which would fit with the state of the MCU following Endgame.
Regardless, we’re excited to see whatever comes next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And in the meantime, we’ll rewatch the existing films for any Easter eggs and continue to satisfy our minds with rumors.
